Writing
I have written for many national and regional publications on a wide range of topics. My target audiences have included preteens, sports enthusiasts, medical specialists and more. Despite the differences in subject matter and reader demographics, the basic challenges of crafting an interesting and informative article remain the same. Having developed my research, interviewing and writing skills over the course of two decades of professional experience, I’m up to the task.I can complete most articles of 1,500 words or less within one month of receiving a formal assignment and prepayment. I will accommodate requests for quicker turnarounds as my schedule permits. My rates generally start at 30 cents per word. Rush jobs and articles requiring extensive research or interviews might call for higher fees, but I might also accept a lower rate for a particularly appealing assignment. Editing
My experience as an editor encompasses books, magazines, Web sites and marketing materials. I offer three levels of editing:- Proofreading: Correcting grammar, spelling and punctuation — 1 cent per word.
- Copyediting: Proofreading, plus checking for redundancy, lack of clarity, poor word choices — 3 cents per word.
- Substantive editing: Copyediting, plus additional services where needed, such as reorganizing to improve flow of ideas, highlighting questionable assertions, suggesting areas for further research — 5 cents per word.
A $15 minimum applies to all editing assignments. I will send you the edited document as an e-mail attachment in Word (.doc) format, unless instructed otherwise.
EXPRESS Editing
I can complete most editing assignments (2,000 words or less) within 72 hours. If you let me know your schedule ahead of time, I will try to accommodate you. If you need the work done now, I offer the following options:- Overnight service: If I receive your properly submitted text and payment by 2 p.m. Pacific time on a business day (Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. holidays), I will return the edited document by 10 a.m. Pacific time on the next business day. I charge a $50 premium for this service.
- 24-hour service: If I receive your properly submitted text and payment by 2 p.m. Pacific time on a business day, I will return the edited document by 2 p.m. Pacific time on the next business day. I charge a $25 premium for this service.
- 48-hour service: If I receive your properly submitted text and payment by 2 p.m. Pacific time on a business day, I will return the edited document by 2 p.m. on the second subsequent business day. I charge a $10 premium for this service.
Premiums do not count toward the minimum charge. Express Editing services are subject to availability and only for customers prepaying online for documents not longer than 2,000 words.
